Kerala style dishes of Reemy’s Recipes

Ingredients
1. Bottle gourd – 1 ( 400 gms.)
2. Onion – 100 gms.
3. Split pigeon peas ( Tur dal) – ½ cup
4. Green chillies – 3
5. Curry leaves
6. Oil – 1 tsp.+ 1 tbsp.
7. Salt – 1 tsp. or as per taste
8. Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp.
9. Red chilli powder – 1 tsp. (i have used Kashmiri chilli powder)
10. Water – 1 cup.
11. Tamarind (optional ) – size of a small gooseberry or as per taste
12. Mustard seeds – ½ tsp.
13. Cumin seeds – ½ tsp.
14. Garlic with skin – 4 to 5 cloves
15. Dry red chillies – 2
16. Asafoetida powder – ¼ to ½ tsp.

Points to remember
1. Water content in bottle gourd is more. So we should be careful while adding water.
2. If more gravy is preferred , increase the quantity of water and adjust the seasonings.
3. Lime juice may be added at the end to enhance the taste.
4. Clarified butter (ghee) may be used during non-lent period.
5. Use fresh tamarind to get good colour.
