08: The Cookbooks That Got Away, Recipe Copyright Infringement, Top 10 Sexiest Foods

It’s Valentine’s Day at the time of recording! We’re celebrating it by going through all the cookbooks that got away this season, then we’ve got some listener questions about bulk meal prep and recipe copyrights, and finally, we’ll wrap things up with a game where we absolutely rank the top 10 sexiest foods.

We’ve also chosen our second cookbook review of the year, and it’s going to be Nicola Lamb’s Sift — a pastry book(!) — which is something that has long been requested. We’re just kicking off our stand mixer review and thought it’d be fun to try doing both at once — an idea we’ll surely regret in a few weeks’ time, but for now… it seems fun?

But, because we’ve chosen our next topic, we now have to say goodbye to all the books we didn’t get to review in a timely manner (though, they may make a return later who knows). I wouldn’t say we’ve got strong opinions, but… these were the books that got us excited over the last few months.

  • I love the cookbook talk! The breakdown of the books shows that you both actually take the time to go through the book before talking about it and I really appreciate the thoroughness. Also thank you for your thoughtfulness of why you didn't want to review Bethlehem at this time ❤

  • A baking book?! The scream I scrumpt.

  • There's definitely been a few supper clubs here in Washington DC. Can't speak for other places, but the States does have them!

  • You guys absolutely rock for uplifting Palestinian voices and cooking from cookbooks with authors who are culturally underrepresented ❤️

  • I may or may not be watching the entirety of those quarantine videos over the next few days 👀Also "absolutely fundamentally not": you said what you said but I heard what you thought 😂

  • Hearing the stories about the middle eastern cookbooks is kinda inspiring. As a Saudi who currently lives in LA I went through the same experience as Dina, although I still get my spices from home because they're much cheaper.

  • cheered out loud at the pastry cookbook review announcement. totally get why it didn't really fit into the format previously but super excited for it now.

  • Absolutely love the pod and this channel! Thanks for the cookbook suggestions. I'm actually curious: what distinguishes a rice bowl from "something with rice"? The category of Japanese "donburi" includes so many great dishes like oyakodon and gyuudon.

  • I’m so embarrassed I intruded in you guys’ tomato soup and grilled cheese shenanigans. Hee.

  • Loved the format of you guys going through new interesting cookbooks. Please keep in rotation! Would love this throughout the year. Grilled cheese 100% sexiest.

  • Wait, the two reviews you mentioned aren't out yet right? So that means Justine Cooks and The Wok are coming soon as videos? (typing this while watching so sorry if this gets answered during the video)
