Eggless Kuih Kapit | Love Letter Cookies – Make Vegan Love Letter Cookies for CNY2025



Kuih Kapit is known variously as Love Letters , Kueh Semprong, Asian egg roll, Kueh Sapit, Kueh Sepit and Kueh Belanda. (Love lettersis a type of cookies popular for Chinese New Year. It is also popular among the Malay population in Malaysia. Usually eggs are the main ingredient in these cookies. In this video, I am sharing a way to make eggless Kuih Kapit and they are also vegan and suitable for vegetarians. Instead of bending down over a charcoal fire for hours using the traditional method, I am using an electrical egg roll maker which reduces the tedious method quite wonderfully. Give it a try for Chinese New Year 2025 and surprise your guests with these eggless, vegan kuih kapit/love letters.

Eggless Kuih Kapit | Love Letter Cookies – You Can Make it Vegan for CNY2025
Ingredients
135g (1 cup) rice flour (superfine)
30g (4 tbsp) all-purpose flour (plain flour)
30g (4 tbsp) tapioca flour
80g (8 tbsp) custard powder
¼ tsp salt
150g (¾ cup) sugar
3 tbsp aquafaba
200ml (2 cups) thick coconut milk

Bahan-Bahan
135g (1 cawan) tepung beras (halus)
30g (4 sudu besar) tepung gandum serbaguna
30g (4 sudu besar) tepung ubi
80g (8 sudu besar) tepung kastad
¼ tsp garam
150g (¾ cawan) gula
3 tbsp air rebusan kacang kuda (aquafaba)
200ml (2 cawan) santan pekat

Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Servings: 30-50 pieces

  • Coming up with an eggless version of Love Letters was quite a challenge. This is the result after many rounds of experiments. I am happy to say that the Love Letters are crunchy and tasty. Chinese New Year has always been associated with Love Letters aka Kuih Kapit for me as I used to get several containers from a close friend at the office. Munching on these crunchy, light cookies was a favourite past time then. Now I can enjoy these cookies again!!
