  • If you eat a 1,000 calorie meal, surely those calories have to be stored somewhere, irrespective of whether they are fat, sugar or protein – you cannot burn that amount of calories off in an hour, even with vigorous excercise.

  • I am a bit confused: isn't insulin supposed to extract energy from glucose and transport that energy to your cells? From what dr. Fung said, all insulin does is take the glucose and store it as fat, i don't understand how

  • At one point I weighed 246. I was so uncomfortable in my body. The first thing I did was cut out all processed foods and cane sugar and I started eating whole foods, an avocado a piece of steak, an apple, blueberries, Greek yogurt, etc. I started exercising, basically, just doing the activities that I enjoyed like hiking. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator, basically increasing my movement.
    And while I didn't incorporate fasting right away, I dropped a good 40 lbs just by cutting out processed foods and sugar and got myself moving. After I added fasting into what I was doing and added different exercises into my routine, I lost another 46 lbs within 4 months. I still have 30 to go . What I've started doing is increasing my fasting window. I'll be starting a 36-hour fast shortly & cycling protein & carb days. I've also added in strength training and hiit training. I think a lot of people get overwhelmed with all the information they get and they try to do everything all at once. It gets to be too much and they just quit. Just by taking small steps to begin with can have a huge impact on your weight and how you feel. I mean, when I first started, I just cut out processed foods and cane sugar, got moving and I dropped a lot of weight.Then I moved to the next step, which was adding in fasting. So that I think one of the tricks is don't get overwhelmed, take steps, it'll be easier to get to where you wanna be. I'm definitely going to buy his book. I love the way he analyzes things to find out what's actually the cause.

  • I love his no nonesense approach. Dr. Fung is a great example of a dr who actually cares about people and their overall health rather than just perscribing meds.

  • Question to ask. So we all understand (hopefully now after this episode) the power of insulin and it's fat storing power, and when we talk about hormone imbalance (insulin in this case) and keeping weight on, what other hormones have an effect – directly or indirectly on fat storage?

  • People dont overeat brocolli because it would take 6.5 pounds of broccoli to equal 1000 calories. I doubt someone could eat that amount of broccoli if given the whole day. 14 double stuff oreos equals 1000 calories which someone could eat in under 10 mins.

    Calorie counting doesnt work for most people because they cant stick with it, not because it doesnt work. Why do you think ozempic has been so successful? Oh idk… cause it makes people less hungry, which equals less calories.

  • I’m starting tomorrow I changed my life doing Omad Smoothie Detox but he’s right about what happens when you don’t stick to it. I put it back in of course I did when I went back to eating out everyday and ordering food. When the weight actually was rolling off when I fasted. You just really have to have that discipline.

  • Easiest way for me to fast. First meal at 8am last meal at 3pm. This paired with a carnivore diet are the tools I've used for weight loss. Nothing else has worked.
