Vegan Lentil Burgers with the Works
Forever have vegans and vegetarians have been searching for a burger that has the perfect balance flavor and texture, and finally we have found a recipe worthy of the masses. The mixture of sweet potato and the hearty lentils won’t leave anyone asking, “Where’s the beef?”.
Full recipe:
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons (30 mL) of vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
½ pound (227 g) of mushrooms, freshly sliced
4 cloves of garlic, freshly chopped
2 cups (500 mL) of cooked lentils
1 cup (250 mL) of bread crumbs
½ cup (125 mL) of peanut or almond butter
2 tablespoons (30 mL) of miso paste
2 tablespoons (30 mL) of soy sauce
2 tablespoons (30 mL) of dried thyme
¼ cup (60 mL) of chia seeds
2 cups (500 mL) of sweet potato, grated
Directions:
1. Splash the oil into your skillet over medium-high heat. Toss in the onion, mushrooms, and garlic and sauté until they become brown and flavourful, about 10 minutes. Transfer the mixture to your food processor. Add all the remaining ingredients except the grated sweet potato. Puree the mixture until everything is smoothly combined. Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and stir in the sweet potato by hand so it does not break down in the machine. Rest the mixture for ten minutes, giving the chia seeds time to work their magic.
2. Using your hands, shape the mixture into evenly formed patties. They may be cooked immediately, refrigerated for several days, or frozen for a month.
3. When it is time to cook you have lots of options for these burgers. You may fry them in a lightly oiled sauté pan on your stovetop, sear them on your griddle, grill, or BBQ, or even bake in your oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes. Whatever method you choose, keep in mind that these burgers brown relatively quickly so medium-high heat will allow the centers to keep up while the exteriors cook.

I have yet to try these. The problem with any type of lentil, black bean, or veggie burger that I've tried isn't the flavor, but the texture. The ones I've tried so far are nowhere close to the texture of meat. How do these stack up?
Is this the dude from the show northern exposure?
This very good thanks.
Nice to see more vegan recipes going out. One thing though…he mentions that you easily get all the protein you need when you eat meat. Actually you get all the protein you don't need as animal protein causes cancer and leaches minerals from your bones.
I love when vegans say they hate the taste of meat yet desperately seek to recreate it.
Soak lentils before cooking at least 4 to 5 hrs

Well I couldn't resist. I paused you at 7.33 and followed exactly. 45 mins later here I am eating one and watching last few minutes of your video. Delicious!!. 🏆🏆 Wow who knew chia seeds! It was indeed awesome 😊😊
This Chef makes lentils cool! The secret is chia seeds. My lifelong struggle… burgers that do not fall apart like the walls of Jericho. I find myself adding handfuls of flour to my soggy patties to no avail. Thank you for explaining the "architecture" of creating a successful vegan burger. I really want to commit to a vegetarian lifestyle as a newbie 7th Day Adventist. Meat dishes eg Roast lamb dinners, are such an integral part of Western culture, particularly in traditional agricultural economies such as New Zealand. Still, it is a paradigm shift that I am willing to make towards a healthier, biblical-based lifestyle.
Wow. Music clip every 15 seconds? Impressive. Burger looks good too.
I would add smoked paprika, jalapeño peppers, roasted red peppers and nutritional yeast. I would then roll them in breadcrumbs before cooking/frying.
Thank you for this recipe; I’ll make it my own 😊
Awesome recipe!

that is no burger, that is a hashbrown.
Seriously, so good! Makes me wonder why I waited so long to make vegan burger. ❤
I’m no chef or cooking expert , I made my own veggie burgers for years and never had any problem getting them to stick together. Yes legumes got plenty protein , amino acids , but nowhere near the same amount as animals for the same size weight of meal / portion ..

Why do vegans love eating stuff that looks like poo
I like to close my eyes and imagine Norm Macdonald explain cooking to me
Love this video, but it has to be said that the protein info was a bit off… vegans and vegetarians get their protein from every plant they eat. The amount of protein may vary, but when people eat animal flesh they are getting 2nd hand protein. All the animals that people consume are vegan, so if they aren't consuming meat for their protein, where do you think it comes from?…. Plants!
My main point is lets stop with the narrative that vegans or vegetarians sre somehow missing out on protein or nutrients, especially when you have people like dr. Aris Latham who has be raw vegan for over 50 years and at 76 could probably out work everyone in the chat, myself included.
Peace love and light fam
💕✌️❤️👍👍👍👍
I’m going to Shake Shack as fast as I can
Looking forward to making these tomorrow! I love my burgers with Avacodo! Yum….
Hold a veggie burger together by adding a few tbs of instant mashed potato powder. Works every time.
Yummy Delicious Darling Blessing. ⚘🎚❤🤍💙🍑⭐🦋
Newcomer to the plant protein thing, and lentils are my new favorite. This will definitely help poorer people like me eat better!
