If you’re cooking for one, I highly suggest the pastas found in the Hispanic section at Walmart. They are smaller types of pasta but they are 55 cents for a 10 ounce bag. They have the perfect pasta for chicken and noodles as well as STARS which made awesome chicken and stars and way better than the condensed soups you normally buy. Loving this channel. New sub! Oh, and if you need small boxes of pasta sauce which I appreciate, the same section as tomato sauce for 69 cents which tastes exactly like pasta sauce. Nothing irritates me more than 1/2 open jars of pasta sauce in the fridge. The flavor is on point. I started using them for camping but they are all shelf stable and suit one/two person meals perfectly.
I like beans immensely, and I like to combine them with short pasta. I never thought about using my immersion blender to smash them into a form of gravy, but I might try this.
My closest friend makes her own beef chorizo, and it's so delightfully spiced, it doesn't need anything else done to it, and I think just 1/3 of cup of that would be fabulous with the bean/pasta dish. The chorizo is very rich, and a little goes a very long way.
I just have her make mine for me, me being unable to stand long enough to do the whole process (it takes her several hours….she's also 20 years younger than me). I'm very happy to pay for someone's hard work!
Frozen peas are so inexpensive and a good thing to throw a half cup or so into dishes like that
Or vegetarians can use lentils. They’re cheap and easy.
From an old friend: One can black beans (rinse and drain), one cup salsa, 1/2 cup broth, 1/2 t. cumin. Blend, heat and serve. Why not serve on pasta? Now I wonder if the rinse and drain is necessary. The Walmart Great Value canned salsa would work.
Love this! I also like to keep a jar of capers in the fridge as well. It takes pasta to the next level. Also fresh parsley and fresh lemons will elevate a pasta dish with minimal added expense.
instant plain potato flakes as thickener?
I just use garlic seasoning
Wow! I will definitely try that pasta bean dish with spinach and tomatoes sometime. Thank you for another creative and inspiring video Michelle!! 😊
I normally don't like beans (texture more than flavor), but I found a medieval recipe for sweet beans that are blended into a paste, rather like red bean paste in Asian treats. I admit I'm curious about using beans to make a gravy/sauce. I have a bunch of beans put up in my prepper pantry, but I know I need some recipes to make them palatable. This might be a good way to get beans into my diet without feeling like I'm eating nuggets of wet, raw flour.
I have to admit, I was thinking about gravy n' biscuits as soon as you said it looked and tasted like gravy. I grew up on gravy n' biscuits, but had to give it up many years ago due to heartburn (not to mention I converted to Judaism, so no more sausage). This tempts me . . .
I have been making a white bean puree sauce for pasta for a long time.. I like your additions. I should keep batches in the freezer for automatic lazy meals 🙂 You have renewed my interest in making more of these kinds of meals 🙂 Thanks ! This with brown rice pasta or whole wheat pasta creates complete proteins for your meal. I also love to add the puree to bouillon for soup, especially with some spinach and mushrooms .
I have cans of chickpeas…. Thinking that might work. I bought some ground beef on clearance for $1.25 lb rolls. I was able to pick up 6.
It looks beautiful in the bowl ❤
Good work with the meat. I've noticed that the packaged meat is more expensive than buying it from the meat counter. The bean sauce looked good.
I always use less meat…..we don't really notice the difference and then there is meat for another meal. This is for casserole type dishes or noodle "hamburger helper" type meals. YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME TO MAKE THE BLENDED BEAN, SPINACH AND TOMATOES TODAY! YUMMY! That looks amazing….. I make a soup with the blender cannellini beans, roasted garlic, a splash of heavy cream and butter……it is finished with some Basil olive oil. So cheap so delicious. People have no idea they can put it together in minutes for pennies.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful dishes! I want to try them all. I am going to have to rewatch this video a few more times to make sure I get it right.
I love to make homemade hamburger helper. It is one of my husband's favorite meals. I only use a little bit of ground beef like you did, plus onion powder or onion flakes for a little extra flavor. As a bonus, I can literally have dinner on the table in 20 minutes. Great video as usual Michelle!!
only thing the price of your meat here is ground pork
So much great info! This video was one of your very best. So much potential! Thx! Anne
Ooh. Trying these.
